GTL Truck Profi

Product description

GTL Truck is a laser-microchip aligner for the measurement of trucks, buses, trailers and semi-trailers. Thanks to the use of lasers, the machine can be used to measure multi-axle vehicles, including articulated buses. The measurement of the vertical angles is done with the use of specialist gravitational sensors. Half-toe measurement, on the other hand, is done with the use of CCD cameras. Finally, the straight-ahead drive position is determined with low-energy lasers. The use of lasers has a significant advantage when compared to other modern technologies; namely, it makes it possible to measure even in direct sunlight.

In the process, measuring bars are hung on the vehicle's chassis frame. Two such bars are always placed in specific points on the frame - depending on the type of the vehicle being measured, as well as which of the wheels are to be measured. The device comes with a semi-trailer coupling and a trailer coupling.

GTL Truck

Use the electronic level to level the measuring units. The units have also been fitted with LCD displays, which show the name and the value of the measured angle. The device memorises the results of the measurements of the vehicle currently being checked. The caster and king-pin inclination angles are measured in a single left-to-right and right-to-left wheel turn.

The measuring units are powered from cadmium-nickel batteries(without the so-called memory effect). Recharging is automatic - it starts every time the units are placed back in the docks on the cabinet. It is also possible, however, to power the units with cables, if need be. Wheel run-out compensation is done with the use of a special clamp. With this clamp, one full swing of the wheel is enough to accurately compensate the run-out.

What it's for

GTL TruckGTL TRUCK is able to reference the vehicle's chassis frame, which, in the case of a truck or bus, is the main load-bearing element. Because it uses lasers, GTL Truck is fit to measure two- or multi-axle vehicles, including articulated buses. Altogether, GTL measures the following parameters:

  • front half-toes,
  • front total toe,
  • rear total toe (*),
  • front and rear camber,
  • thrust angle (*),
  • wheelbase difference,
  • wheel side offset (*),
  • caster,
  • king-pin inclination,
  • toe-out-on-turns at 20° steering lock,
  • steering lock.

NOTE:(*) - only if the device is equipped in measuring bars with accessories.

Rear axle measurement accessories

Measuring bars

The measuring bars are necessary to measure the rear wheels of a vehicle as they make it possible to reference the measuring assembly to the vehicle's chassis frame. Two such bars are hung in specific points on the frame, depending on vehicle type. The main element of the measuring bar is the self-centring mechanism (1), which makes it possible to slide apart the bars symmetrically and thus place the retainer (3) in the frame's axis of symmetry. This mechanism can be placed at different heights under the vehicle by locking the vertical bars' (2) position with the catches (4).
Directly on the mechanism's body, extenders (5) are placed. These have notches that ensure their position in relation to the retainer (3) is correct. Then, on each of the extenders, targets (6) are mounted, using, again, special retainers (7).

Semi-trailer coupling (8)

This is the component that is put on the semi-trailer's king-pin. It makes it possible to use the trailer’s king-pin as a mounting point for the measuring extensions.

Trailer coupling(9)

This accessory is necessary to measure a trailer's front axle. It makes it possible to use the trailer's towing eye as a reference for the measurement. The coupling can be adjusted to fit several towing eyes' diameters.

Toe targets (10)

These are used for the measurement of total rear toe, thrust axis and wheelbase difference.
Rear axle measurement accessories

Vertical bars short (11)

These are meant to be used instead of long vertical bars, mainly when measuring buses, whose chassis frame goes through the luggage compartment and which is easily accessible on either side of the bus. Another instance of their use could be when measuring low-chassis buses.

Magnetic catches (12)

These catches are used in cases where the vehicle's chassis frame has no conveniently positioned holes in it. The picture illustrates how these catches should be used.
Any dirt that may have collected should be removed prior to installation.magnetic catches

Clamping devices

They are used for mounting the measuring units on the 14" to 24" (26") wheel rims.
The bracketed value does not cover all, non-standard rim shapes.

Rear targets

They are used for the measurement of the front axle horizontal angles.

Truck turn-tables

The turn-tables are necessary to measure turning angles as well as simply facilitate the turning of wheels. Maximum bearing load for a single turn-table is 5000 kG.

ITS certificate

GTL Truck virtually from its launch on the market has been certified to conform to the high standards put forward by the Motor Transport Institute (ITS) from Warsaw. The certificate's details are given in the table below:

Available options

GTL Truck is available in two options, each of which can have components added or removed. The difference between these versions lies, amongst others, in the way the measuring units are docked - could either be on the cabinet or simply docking. Another point is that the machine can be equipped in a Bluetooth modem for communication between the measuring unit and the computer. GTL Truck is sold in the following versions:

  1. Standard - includes a docking trolley and two measuring units
  2. Profi - includes a cabinet with docking, two measuring units with wireless data transfer, computer with software and a colour A4 ink printer.

Measurement report

Each GTL Truck user can offer their customer a print-out of the measurement report. The report gives the workshop credibility and it's also a great help for the technician - it makes their job easier as well, especially in the case of a rear axle measurement, where the technician must make some calculations themselves.

Measuring stand

The most commonly used is the inspection pit. The surface around the pit must be flat, hard and level. For measurement results to be reliable, maximum difference in level cannot exceed 2 mm for two points that are 1000 mm apart. Wheel alignment equipment manufacturers even recommend the tolerance to be 1 mm for every 1000 mm. If it proves impossible to fulfill these requirements on all of the floor surface, you can limit yourself to the points where the wheels of a measured vehicle touch the ground. However, as the wheelbase can be of considerable length in vehicles with GVM above 3,5 ton, this alone could turn out a difficult enough task.

Turn-table recess dimensions

Besides the isnspection pit you can also use a column lift. When doing so, however, attention must be paid to the position of the lift's arms- they must be positioned at the same height. In particular, it must be remembered that the rear wheels should be at the same height as the front ones at all times. Because of this, when working with an inspection pit, it is advisable to let the turntables in the ground. If that is not possible, consider using levelling slabs (see: additional equipment). It is important to make sure that the inspection pit is long enough to make it easy to position long vehicles, like articulated buses, to straight-ahead drive.

Training movie

In order to make it easier to get to know the machine we include a CD with a training film. The film takes the technician through the whole process of measurement, explaining step by step what needs to be done.

Multimedia user guide

A multimedia user guide is a perfect addition that the customer receives free of charge with every machine purchase. Similar to the training video, it describes in detail the particular stages in the measurement process.
